Business Networks

Since it’s launch, CREST has worked with local businesses to establish three industry focused networks, that can bring benefits to Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. The focus of the networks has been based on priorities and challenges facing the region, alongside current developments in industry. They are based on the support that CREST is able to offer companies, and allow us to reach out to SMEs interested in working with us. All networks host regular events to share best practise and new ideas.

Shrewsbury Geospatial Group

The Shrewsbury Geospatial Group was originally set up as a response to the Geospatial Commission call for evidence in 2018, bringing together academia, and the private and public sectors. Since then it has opened opportunities for innovation and collaboration using geospatial data. The group is raising awareness of applications of geospatial sector as well as raising the profile of geospatial businesses in the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin areas.

It’s objectives are to:

  • Provide opportunities for business networking and knowledge transfer, supporting entrepreneurship
  • Provide opportunities for upskilling to keep businesses up to date with technology developments in this sector
  • Provide access and signposting to University R&D services
  • Develop collaborative bids where possible
  • Promote the support that CREST can offer to SMEs for innovative projects

Shrewsbury Water Forum

Due to it’s location on the River Severn, and close proximity to Birmingham, Shrewsbury has become a hub for hydrogeologists and water based consultancies. We want to retain this expertise, and promote and sustain Shrewsbury as a centre of groundwater excellence. This led to the creation of the Shrewsbury Water Forum.

It’s objectives are to:

  • Encourage collaboration between the professional community and academia
  • Retain and grow the economic activity of this industry within Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
  • Promote and sustain Shrewsbury as a centre of groundwater excellence
  • Promote the support that CREST can offer to SMEs for innovative projects
